These conditions have made speaking, word finding, and writing a complex task—often difficult and frustrating. However, the advent of various applications, particularly AI-driven ones like ChatGPT, has been revolutionary. These tools have become invaluable in helping me construct texts, serving as a collaborative aide alongside my personal assistant. ### Complexities in Creative Work As an electronic musician, the intricacies involved in my work extend far beyond sound. Articulating the processes behind my compositions and detailing how and why my works are created can be time-consuming. This requires my personal assistant to possess a deep understanding of the software, visual programming tools, and my creative inspirations.
### Accelerating Communication with AI
The introduction of language processing systems, such as ChatGPT, has significantly sped up the communication and creative documentation processes. More than just a tool, it’s been an enhancer of my thoughts. Whether writing about my work, connecting with friends and family, or applying for creative opportunities, I rely on key prompts. These come from words, past text excerpts, or even through gestures and signs shared with my assistant. The secret lies in the volume and richness of these prompts: the more there are, the more authentic and satisfactory the results. This bespoke approach helps maintain the integrity and originality of my expressions.
### Reclaiming My Voice
One of the most empowering aspects of embracing AI has been having a voice that aligns closely with my own identity. With the help of SpeakUnique, a voice bank research project at Edinburgh University, I’ve created a personalized speech pattern using AI. By sampling recordings from my past radio shows and podcasts, I now have a communication aid that sounds just like me. This has been a game-changer, allowing for authentic self-expression and boosting my confidence.
### Balancing AI and Creativity
Despite these advancements, the intersection of AI and creativity is a complex web. While I am cautious about the implications AI might have on the value of creative work, I remain optimistic. Importantly, I choose not to use AI to generate my musical creations. In summary, technology, when harnessed wisely, can bridge the gap created by communication disabilities, offering new ways to express identity and retain creative authenticity. While AI opens new doors, the human touch remains irreplaceable in the realm of art and creativity.
